The Kids & What They Learn

About 200 children, ranging in age from six weeks through five years, are enrolled in the early learning program at 4 Kids. Each child receives high-quality, individualized, educationally based care. We also work closely with parents as partners in their children's education.

For each age group, a carefully planned curriculum outlines what children will learn, along with the teaching strategies we use to achieve those goals. Because reading is the foundation for success in school and the workplace, each curriculum's major focus is promoting emerging literacy. But many other factors also contribute to school success, and we work to make sure that enrolled pre-school children are “school ready” before they enter kindergarten. (Click for more information on school readiness.)

Our classroom environments are designed to promote successful learning as well as safety, comfort, and stimulation. Classroom schedules are thoughtfully organized to allow activities that are both structured and independent, including rest time, and both individual and group learning are emphasized.

Every day includes multiple enrichment activities designed both to be fun and to reinforce the curriculum. For instance, art and music are woven throughout the day; every classroom has a pet to learn from; and the garden is the source of many lessons (as well as flowers and vegetables!). Computers provide not only academic benefits but an invaluable exposure to technology.

We make sure all our activities are "developmentally appropriate." That means the curriculum and classroom activities are based on two factors: knowledge of how children grow and what they can do at each stage of their development; and the individual needs, strengths, and interests of each child.
